I discuss many topics on this blog and as some of you might have realized by know, one topic I sometimes discuss is blogging. There are more and more blogs and bloggers these days. The question arises why do people decide to blog in the first place? This is an interesting question and I am sure that people are going to answer in many different ways. Some will blog to keep in touch with friend and family, while others will blog so that they will have a chance to present their views to other people. The important thing to keep in mind is to enjoy blogging, because ultimately the best reasons for blogging is simply that you enjoy it.

Search Engine Wars
Yahoo is one of the most prominent search engines in the world, but since Google is currently the number one search engine, Yahoo has to constantly think about improving its search engine in order to compete. One of the features that Yahoo has announced is that it will be allowing others to enhance its search engine experience. The Open Search Platform, as it is called, consists of APIs that allows people to modify search results by multiple ways, including images, structured data and additional links. A fully customized website that can be listed in the Open Search Platform can include the rating, address and phone in case of a business and links to particular places such as photos or reviews. Using the APIs tools is interesting, as adding more information to the search results will attract more visitors.
Technology and Electric Power
We have seen some very big advances in technology during the last 50 years. A lot has changed and one of the most important changes are computers. These days most computers are connected to the Internet and living without any computers or the Internet would be hard to imagine. However, it is true that computers consume more and electric power. Processors have more and more cores, while graphic cards become faster and faster. The electric power usage is bound to grow due to this and so is our dependency on electric power. I think that while the fact that computers use more and more electric power is not such a great thing, it does not mean that governments should try to discourage people from using electric power. By discouraging people from using electric power, what they are actually doing is limiting access to technology.
What I am Going to Do About Internet Safety in My Home
One thing that I am going to do about Internet safety for my kids is to set some rules when it comes to the way my children are going to be allowed to use the Internet. I will try to make those rules as simple and as clear as possible so that my children know at all times what it is that I want from them. I want them to know what I expect from them and that I have high expectations and that no exceptions to those rules will be tolerated.
One idea that I have here is to pin a copy of those rules somewhere in a visible place where everybody will have access to it. One of the computers of my kids should be a good place so that they are constantly reminded of the rules they are not supposed to break.
Selling Access Rather Than Products
Most things that you can buy online are products, rather than services in a form of access to some information/website. What is typical about many things that people buy online is that they are finished products. A customer who buys such a product knows that all he will receive will be this particular product he is buying. The situation is different with selling access to websites. Usually websites that sell access to their site feature comprehensive articles. They often discuss subject that people in a particular niche are interested in. Such websites also sometimes host small programs that can help people achieve what they are looking for. My opinion is that anyone who is looking for ways to make money online should consider offering access to websites, as well as selling products. Of course, you will need to be able to offer something very useful in order for people to want to pay for access to your website. That might not be easy, as there are millions of websites that do not charge for access to their site. Nonetheless, I am sure there are various niche websites that people are interested in to such a degree that they would not mind paying for. An example of such a website could be an investment portal.
What People Like About Blogging
Blogging has become an integral part of our culture, as there are millions of people who enjoy sharing their thoughts with others by blogging. There are many things which bloggers like about blogging, and here are some of them that I would like to list:
-Desire to have contact with others and being part of the blogging community. Everybody needs to identify himself somehow, and most people like being actively involved in a community.
-Desire to do something creative, something that will stay for a long time. People are generally creative beings. Being passive does not bring many people satisfaction. They have an irresistible desire to create something that they will be able to show and share with others.
-Desire to have a popular blog with a lot of traffic and high number of comments. Desire for popularity and fame are other characteristics of humans. What people want to achieve is to be known in the blogosphere as an experienced bloggers who publish quality content.
-Possibility of setting very specific goals and aiming at them. Do you want to have higher Alexa score? Set your realistic goals and try to achieve them. What is nice about blogging is that the more work you put in it, the better results you will obtain.
What is it that motivates you to blog?
Web Extensions
Do you know what are the most popular Web extensions? The ones that are used the most are com, net, org, info, and biz. The most popular websites on the Internet usually have a com extension, but it also varies from website to website. There are no extensions that are inherently better than others. Nonetheless, the fact remains that the extension com became the most popular in the world. This might change in the future once many other extensions will be released, but for now many Internet users associate websites with the com extension. This website also has a com extension, and perhaps that is why it is easy for visitors to remember the address. Overall, I would recommend that if you are not sure which extension to choose then decide on com as it is the most known one. For those who do not surf the web that often it will be a lot easier to remember such a web address.
Bad Memory Check
Having bad random access memory (RAM) can cause various problems with your computer. If you suspect your RAM is faulty, it is important to diagnose the problem in order to know how to deal with it. One symptom of having bad memory is when your computer freezes and you have to restart it because of that. A good indication that your computer freezes is when you cannot even move your mouse cursor. On the other hand, if you can move your mouse cursor, but your computer is sluggish then probably it is the fault of your software or operating system. In order to identify bad RAM you will need some tools, so here is a short list:
Memtest86 is a popular application which can be downloaded from memtest86.com. As the name implies, it tests the memory of your computer.
Prime95 from mersenne.org/freesoft.htm can be also used for the same purpose as the above software. It is a newer program so it has some useful features.
Fortunately, RAM is not that expensive these days so even if you will have to replace it, it shouldnt cost too much. Just make sure that you are going to buy RAM that will be compatible with you motherboard.
Having Loyal Readers
From a bloggers perspective, there is no better reward than having loyal readers. Since you write posts for readers, it is essential that they read them. Having a genuine relationship with your readers can help you become a better blogger. Dedicated readers will always try to help you and they will support you when you do not feel like writing. If you publish a book, set up a Twitter account, or start publishing a newsletter, they will always be the first ones to read it. A genuine relationship with your readers starts with you. Of course, building a relationship takes time. Do not expect your readers to be encouraging you when you first set up your blog. Give them some time to become loyal, generous, helpful, positive, and supportive. There are many blogs with loyal readers, so you can achieve it as well.
The Growth of Blogging
Some time ago, I read an article about blogging and there were some interesting numbers listed there. The article stated that Technorati, a search engine that monitors blogs, indexed around 150 million blogs, up from 100,000 just a few years ago. It seems that a new blog is created every few seconds, which adds up to thousands new blogs a day, hundreds of thousands of posts a day, and thousands of updates an hour. As you see, the growth rate of blogs is really impressive. But what are really blogs? I think that blogs are lowering the cost of publishing, enabling the rise of content, which is replacing the centralized, controlled content done by professionals. I am not saying that some bloggers do not go pro, but most bloggers are only blogging part-time. Blogs are becoming more and more popular with each passing day. One of the reasons is that very often bloggers allow their visitors to ask them questions, leave comments, etc. A user that visits a blog can actually interact with the writer and that is not possible in case of newspapers.
The article had the conclusion that blogging is still in its early days and it is analogous to where the Web was in 1995 and 1996, so it is not clear how it will turn out. However, as a blogger myself, I am predicting that the popularity of blogging will not cease to grow and some bloggers will become even more influential.
